Orientation Ceremony for Postgraduate and Undergraduate Students held

ORIENTATION CEREMONY FOR POSTGRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS HELD

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has held its Orientation Ceremony for the 2019/ 2020 fresh students admitted into Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. The annual ceremony is held to enlighten students about RMU’s status, personnel, faculties, rules and regulation as well as socialize freshmen into the University environment.

 UNDERGRADUATE ORIENTATION CEREMONY

A three-day orientation ceremony was held to officially harmonize fresh students into the Maritime fraternity. The program witnessed the convergence of Management, Staff, and Freshmen admitted for the 2019/ 2020 Academic year at the University Parade grounds. The Ceremony spanned from Wednesday, 4th September, through to Friday, 6th September 2019.

In a welcome address,the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Elvis Nyarko, congratulated the freshmen for their outstanding performance in the Senior High School Examination and urged them to be dedicated and committed to their studies. He admonished the fresh students to comply with the rules and enshrined in the student’s handbook. He charged them to incorporate the use of technology and be innovative and adaptive to the changing world. He called on the students to follow laid down protocols in addressing their grievances. For this cause, he implored the fresh students to respect the Officials of the University.

 Speaking at the Orientation Ceremony, the Chairman of Function, Ing. Augustus Addy-Lamptey enjoined the fresh students to take their studies seriously and make judicious use of the library. He added that the RMU, thrived on discipline and dedication to work thus called them to the mandate of upholding the integrity of the University.

Other activities for the ceremony included an overview presentation by the Deans of the various faculties of the University. Dr. S.O.B Oppong, Dean of the faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, gave an overview of the faculty Engineering,comprising of three (3) departments as Marine Electricals Engineering and Information and Communication Technology and the various programmes offered by these academic departments.

 Mrs. Felicity Ankomah Sey, Dean, Faculty of Maritime and Studies, also gave an overview of the Faculty of Maritime Studies comprising three (3) departments, namely Nautical Science, Maritime Safety, Department of Transport and the various programmes run under the departments.

The Marketing Officer, Mrs. Evelyn Quartey, who was the MC for the Orientation Ceremony, warmly welcomed the freshers and re-echoed the sentiments of the various speakers for the benefit of freshers and hoped that they would imbibe knowledge, excellence and discipline, the Motto of the University.

POSTGRADUATE ORIENTATION CEREMONY

An orientation ceremony was earlier held on Friday,16th August, 2019 at the University Auditorium to welcome the Graduate students into M.A Ports and Shipping Administration. The one-year academic program is targeted at Senior Management personnel in Ports and Shipping organizations and all persons interested in making a career in the maritime industry. As part of the ceremony, keynote addresses were heard from Senior members of the University. Speeches to equip them with requisite knowledge and skills to appreciate policy issues pertaining to maritime transport at both domestic and global levels.

Speaking to the students, the Dean of RMU Graduate School, Dr. York Abaidoo, welcomed and congratulated them for the successful entry into the University. He assured the students of the University’s preparedness to equip them with knowledge and skills required for effective performance in planning, operational management,policy formulation and Ports and Shipping organization.

Dr. George VanDyck, Coordinator for the Graduate School congratulated the adult students for their successful entry into the University. Addressing them, he announced that the RMU puts a premium on discipline.He advised the adult students to respect the rules and regulations of the University and implored them to diligently serve as role models for the undergraduate students.
